Job Description
Solidus is searching for a Software Systems Engineer to design application processes, threads, and use cases to support requirements for custom state-of-the-art hardware for technology demonstrations important to national defense.  The prospective candidate will be a member of an established high-functioning design team developing these advanced technologies for challenging environments over a variety of application spaces and data rates. 

The successful candidate will join a group that develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals.  The technology developed and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through participation in standard groups and through the operation of a gold-standard test infrastructure.  Major efforts include demonstration of a low-cost, high performance airborne lasercom terminals, designed for the lasercom interoperability standards, development of a test capability to validate interoperability among various contractor-produced terminals, and investigation into techniques to enable multiple simultaneous lasercom links through a single aperture. 

- Ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Clearance
- PhD plus 5 years minimum experience, or MS plus 8 years minimum experience
- Experience working with System Engineers and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify software requirements as they flow down from Technical Requirements Documents (TRDs), capability to define system flows and uses cases using state, class, activity, and component diagrams (UML), and to provide performance estimates and memory budgets
- Ability to develop software for an embedded Linux environment, specifically AM3517 based processors and tool chains, with the ability to customize Linux OS builds, develop and maintain custom device drivers for in-house developed hardware, and user level applications
- Demonstrated track record in the use of the aforementioned technologies when designing, testing, integrating, and delivering software for high-rel free space lasercom systems
- Required tool experience with C, C++, Python, bash scripting, STL, QT, valgrind, GDB, DOORS, Subversion, GIT and Red Hawk Linux
- Unparalleled laboratory based integration and test skills are required
- Additionally, the ability to work in an exclusively UNIX based environment complemented with excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills is required

Additionally Desired:
- Extensive experience in digital transport technologies including SONET, SDH, OTN, inverse multiplexing, multiplexing, etc., and proprietary network orderwire protocols
- Knowledge of SFP, SFP+, MSA300, XFP, QSFP interfaces in SONET and OTN deployments a plus
