Job Description
Solidus is searching for an Electro-Optic Engineer to help design, build, integrate, and test advanced optical modems supporting high data-rate, free-space optical communications.  Responsibilities include helping design an optical modem that will be used in ground and airborne applications using discrete electro-optic components, and establishing a plan for integration and testing.

The successful candidate will join a group that develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals.  The technology developed and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through participation in standard groups and through the operation of a gold-standard test infrastructure.  Major efforts include demonstration of a low-cost, high performance airborne lasercom terminals, designed for the lasercom interoperability standards, development of a test capability to validate inoperability among various contractor-produced terminals, and investigation into techniques to enable multiple simultaneous lasercom links through a signal aperture.  


Requirements:
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance
- BS in relevant area
- At least 5 years of applicable experience
- General understanding of optical communications
- Knowledge of performance characteristics of electro-optic devices, fiber-optics, and high power optical amplifiers
- Knowledge of use of standard laboratory test and measurement equipment
- Candidate must be able to help design and implement electro-optic subsystems of modems based on specified requirements  

Additionally Desired:
- Experience in lab skills, including fusion-splicing of polarization-maintaining and doped optical fibers, operation of full suite of optical and electronic test and measurement equipment, and conducting tests to characterize system performance (including BER, RIN noise, and EDFA noise figures) is highly desired
