Job Description
Solidus is searching for a Java and Algorithm Design Software Developer.

 
The Engineer will develop, modify and support code used to plan and process imagery data collections for Space Surveillance Systems.  More specifically, we require a strong java programmer to do code development for enhancement and deficiency resolution, integration with mission partner systems and libraries, troubleshooting processing issues, user interface development, and documentation of code/analysis.


Tasks include:
- Modification and continuous development of legacy source code employed to process raw/near-raw focal plane data/images into useful orbital information in user prescribed output formats
- Front-end algorithm design, development, modification and maintenance on a large software project that exploits data from Space-based Space Surveillance Systems 
- Types of algorithms include image processing, target detection & tracking, calibration, orbital dynamics
- Development work will extend to writing database queries and Linux scripting
- Work may extend into Web Services and GUI development
- Completing assignments independently within a team environment
- Collaboration with local and distant coworkers on complex software development
- Interaction with mission partners and sponsors to verify performance, functionality, and anomaly resolution
- Interfacing with sponsors, contractor partners, and vendors that have overlapping responsibilities but varied degrees of familiarity with orbital dynamics and advanced data processing techniques
Requirements:
- All personnel must successfully pass a Commercial Background Investigation and possess and active DoD Secret clearance. Candidates must also be able to obtain a DoD Top Secret SCI clearance and maintain compliance with DoD 8570.1-M IAT Level 2 requirements.  Personnel with active Top Secret clearance and DCID 6/4 eligibility desired
- B.S. in Computer Science, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Mathematics or related discipline with 5+ years of experience or M.S. in related field with 3+ years experience is required.  In lieu of experience, candidates with a combination of both computer science and orbital mechanics education/experience will be considered
- Large scale software experience specifically code bases with multiple developers approaching 1M SLOC
- Familiarity with Subversion (SVN) and Git preferred
- Experience in a Domain Specific Language using Object Oriented Programming techniques
- Experience in Object Oriented Programming specifically with Java as a base language
- Experience with shell scripting, Matlab, SWT and web services a plus
- Familiarity with complex orbital mechanics and/or signal and image processing techniques as applied to target detection, tracking and classification algorithms
- A basic understanding of optics to support image processing target detection, tracking and calibration
- Experience and education in CCD based image processing preferred
- The ability to self-study, complete assignments independently or in a team, and effectively present results
