Job Description
Solidus seeks a Software Development Engineer to support design and development of control software for high reliability system components for use in advanced lasercom communications systems.  The control software will run on commercially available computers both in an embedded and ?server-class? environment, employing a mix of commercial-off-the-shelf and proprietary digital boards used to perform digital signal processing functions.

The successful candidate will join a group that develops, builds, and operates prototype space and airborne lasercom terminals. The technology developed and the lessons learned from these activities are transferred to operational programs through participation in standards groups and through the operation of a gold-standard test infrastructure. Major efforts include demonstration of a low-cost, high-performance airborne lasercom terminal, design of lasercom interoperability standards, development of a test capability to validate interoperability among various contractor-produced terminals, and investigation into techniques to enable multiple simultaneous lasercom links through a single aperture. This group has close interactions with both government and industrial partners therefore a software development engineering is needed to support the group's programs.

The candidate will be expected to perform two primary functions:
1) develop software to specifications provided for the embedded processors within the program systems
2) support system integration and testing (I&T) by helping to identify and resolve software related issues identified during the integration and testing process

Requirements:
- US Citizenship and the ability to obtain a DoD Top Secret Clearance
- MS in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering with at least 8 years of applicable experience.
- Strong background in developing in the C/C++ programming language
- Experience working with the WindRiver VxWorks operating system
- Experience developing low-level software (e.g. boot-loaders, drivers and board support packages)
- Experience working with embedded platforms (e.g. single board computers that are part of a larger system)
- Experience integrating software into a multi-discipline system (including hardware and VHDL communications)
- Ability to develop application software targeting a virtualized environment
- Experience being fully integrated into a software development team and related process for an aggressively scheduled project that is well into the execution phase

Preferred: Significant experience with embedded software development including:
- Advanced embedded C++ programming
- Object-Oriented design
- Model-driven architecture (MDA) using IBM Rhapsody
- Developing for WindRiver VxWorks 6.7
- Using the Integrated Test and Operations System (ITOS) from NASA
