Job Responsibilities:

 SUMMARY OF OCCUPATION:

This position provides instruction and follow along support to individuals and groups in community business settings. The position instructs individuals who are working in competitive employment positions as well as groups of individuals on contracted Work Crew sights. The Community Based Instructor is responsible for monitoring individuals’ work progress according to the individuals’ employer’s specifications, documenting progress, and troubleshooting areas of need.  He/she is responsible for supervision and instruction of work teams in a business setting, documenting productivity and ensuring work quality to the employer’s specifications. The role requires interfacing with business owners on a regular basis.

 

Tasks and Responsibilities (employment)

  1. Required to work hours agreed upon by both the employee and Coordinator of Employment Services.

  2. Works evenings and weekends, as the needs of the individual’s work schedule dictate.

  3. Serves as an integral member of the inter-disciplinary team, communicating verbally the progress of individuals at their work sites.

  4. Implements task analysis based training programs with the emphasis on having individuals perform the total job to their maximum ability.

  5. Provides on-the-job training or re-training to individuals in employment settings.

  6. Makes regular follow-up visits to employment sites as indicated in an individuals’ ISP.

  7. Meets face to face with employer and individual to discuss and resolve issues and concerns.

  8. Communicates with supervisor any issues or concerns that need immediate attention.

  9. Logs service provided as required for billing purposes.

  10. Writes a case note for each contact made to individuals who are competitively employed.

  11. Determines the need for environmental modifications in the work setting and assists to obtain these adaptations.

  12. Maintain positive community and customer relations.

  13. Monitoring individuals’ work progress according to the individuals’ employer’s specifications, documenting progress, and troubleshooting areas of need

  14. Works on the vocational floor as an Instructor or 1:1 support as needed.

  15. Ensures compliance to federal, state and local licensing and accreditation regulations.

  16. Has an acute awareness/knowledge of all Brian’s House policies and procedures.

  17. Performs other designated duties as assigned by manager(s).  

 


Job Qualifications:

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (employment)

  1. Physical ability to assist as needed, which may include lifting as necessary.
  2. Knowledge of the practical aspects of training and care of individuals with intellectual developmental disabilities and mental health diagnosis.
  3. Demonstrate ability to interact in respectful, dignified manner with individuals.
  4. Ability to verbally communicate effectively with individuals, employers, business owners, staff and professional agencies in order to maintain efficient operation of agency business.
  5. Demonstrates an understanding of the differences in group supported work and competitive employment for individuals with disabilities
  6. Demonstrate writing skills to adequately perform all required documentation.
  7. Demonstrate ability/understanding of basic life safety topics relevant to individuals’ wellbeing.
  8. Ability to complete and maintain all training required by licensing or the agency.
